Fibre Focus Friday: Folklore

Fibre Focus Friday: Folklore

If you haven't discovered Folklore yet, let us introduce you to this whimiscal, lightly textured wool blend.

Folklore came about after we decided to blend our then-new tweed range with Merino and Bamboo to make a one-off purple blend which became known as Legacy.  We loved the way it turned out and so did our customers.  Off the back of this we decided to introduce a few more shades to show off the tweed fibres and to expand our offering for those who couldn't get enough of Legacy!

So what goes into a Folklore blend?

Easy!  Equal parts of 23mic Merino, tweed blend and dyed bamboo.  The Merino provides a good, soft base which takes well to blending, the bamboo adds a light sheen which is not disimilar to silk, and the tweed brings in a bit of texture and colour variation with it's nepps.

We chose bamboo over silk as we already had a blend range which included Merino and Silk (Constellation) and we wanted to produce something at a lower price point.  The addition of the bamboo also makes the blend stronger and harder wearing, something that is important when you're spinning yarns that will be used in garment creation.

The final shade to be introduced to this range was Lullaby which is made using only natural white/ecru components.  This is often in high demand with crafters who like to dye their own yarns and enjoy seeing the way each fibre takes the dye differently.
